There. Have a put a new little tune in your heads with the title?
Guess what? The whole burning an old pair of skiis thing ended up working out. I got the call at 5:11 this morning... stay in bed. No school. It's a snow day. How's that for pretty awesome?
The morning changed just a bit- instead of staying in bed, I trudged out of it and shoveled the sidewalk. Then I used a broom to clean off the cars. Then I came in and decided it would take too much effort to actually grind coffee beans, so I made myself a cup of Starbucks. And then I called a friend who I haven't spoken with for quite some time- we ended up being on the phone for 2 hours. Sheesh. That's a long conversation. Then I called the local police station about getting our fingerprints done. "Just come on in anytime. Except for today. We're interviewing folks today. Oh- be sure to bring in the fingerprinting card, a photo id, and $20 per person."
So here's the venting part.... At first I was amused by the "come in anytime-deal", but then I noticed how high my eyebrows were once the additional $20 per person thing was brought up. What the heck? What about the $40/person we'll be sending with the actual fingerprint cards? And do we seriously have to do fingerprints AGAIN for the I-600A? And what's up with that one costing $80/person when the CBI charges $40? What's with the price hike? Damn. We also found out that Jason's passport is going to expire this August, so we need to get that renewed. AND we found out that Colorado is one of "those states that has a lot of hoops we'll have to jump through." Great. So where's the lottery card? Stupid money.
Ahhh. The process.
I think I'll make some cinnamon rolls. That should make me feel better.

Yes, unfortunately there are multiple fingerprinting events throughout this process. For us it was just two (local and CIS) but I've read on several other's blogs that they had to complete 3-4 fingerprinting requirements. Yikes! As for organization, I bought a black 3-ring binder and clear plastic inserts to ensure that none of my documents could get wet/wrinkled, and I made two copies of EVERYTHING just in case. Back when we were getting our dossier docs county & state certified I had multiple binders so that I could move the documents from a "notarized but not certified" binder to the "state certified and ready to go!" binder. Now I just have a "things to bring to Ethiopia" binder! :)
Enjoy your snow day!
All the fingerprinting was the one moment in our paperchase that my head started swimming and drove me tears first and then to my bed for a nap. I was totally overwhelmed and had Ted take care of this part. Uh, so good luck with that.
I'm glad you got a snow day today. I actually thought about you this morning, wondering if you were getting to stay home and drink coffee. Cinnamon rolls sound nice. We have an apple pie to tuck into later today, a pie that Ted just discovered he'd forgotten in the back of truck from his trip to Costco on FRIDAY. Good thing it's cold out; the pie has been snowed and rained on in the past three days. The Rooneys'll eat it though.
I know what you mean about the frustrating process....and the money!! We've been fingerprinted 3 times (I hope we're done with that now), and we've emptied our savings account twice already (yeah, you can assume that means it wasn't too big to begin with!!) I'm just looking forward to having our homestudy done soon so we can apply for some grant $$!!
Not about fingerprints! We are coming to Colorado in March for a little mini vacation. We'll be way south (Pagosa Springs) and a day or two in Denver. You guys anywhere near there either one of those? Shall we meet, or is that just way too creepy and online datish?;)
Hope the cinnamon rolls were good!
we only had to do prints once...
